NeoCards implements a 6-step Leitner spaced repetition system. New cards start at step 0 with a 90-second interval. Each successful review moves the card forward: 30 minutes → 12 hours → 2 days → 2 weeks → 2 months. At step 5, a word is considered mastered. If you struggle with a word, it resets to step 0 and you'll see it again in 90 seconds.
Three Rating Options
After seeing a card, rate your recall: Hard resets the card to step 0 (you'll see it again in 90 seconds). Good moves it one step forward. Easy skips a step. This simple system adapts to how well you know each word without overwhelming you with options.
In-Session Queue
Cards with short intervals (under 1 hour) stay in your active session queue. The app manages them in memory, checking every second for cards that are due. This means your 90-second and 30-minute reviews happen seamlessly during a single study session.
Daily Goals & Streaks
Set a daily study goal (5, 10, or 20 minutes) and track your streak. NeoCards shows a countdown timer during study, celebrates when you hit your goal, and tracks consecutive days of study. Research shows that consistent daily practice — even just 5 minutes — is more effective than occasional long sessions.
